Sheouak Petaulassie

Sheouak Petaulassie was born in 1923 near Cape Dorset. She was the first Inuit artist to include southern material culture in her drawings at the West Baffin Eskimo Cooperative. She designed the WBEC abstract symbol which is included on all prints produced in Cape Dorset. She married Aggeak Petaulassie and their daughter, Mayuriak Ashoona, is also an artist. Sheouak's artwork has been exhibited at the National Gallery of Canada, the Glenbow Museum and the McMichael Canadian Art Collection.
