Papiarak Tuqiqi

Papiarak Tuqiqi was born in 1942 in Nuwata, a Nunavut outpost camp. Her mother, Natsivaar, was also an artist. From 1960-62, she resided in Tikirak where she focused on drawing. She is married to Qopie Tuqiqi. Her art depicts many animals of the Arctic, including caribou, lemmings and polar bears. Papiarak's works have been exhibited at the National Gallery of Canada and the Brooklyn Museum. Papiarak won the Award of Excellence for Original Design for a necklace she created during the late 1970s.
